THE DANCE ACADEMY OF GEORGIA
Jessilynn Smith is the Owner and Artistic Director of The Dance Academy of Georgia. She began her dancing career when she was 18 months old in Birmingham, Alabama. At 8 years old she studied under one of the great "Red Hot Hoofers" the late Mr. Tommy Sutton.When she turned 13 she won 1st place for her choreography at a National Dance competition and had received a Scholarship to attend the Joffery School of Ballet in New York taking from Dorothy Lister, Winthrop Corey, and John Magnus. While in New York she studied at Broadway Dance Center taking classes under such teachers as Frank Hatchett, Savion Glover, and the late Gregory Hines. She also attended a summer program at the North Carolina School of Fine Arts and was accepted to attend the Alabama School of Fine Arts where she studied under the late Dame Sonia Arova and Thor Sutowski. At 17 she performed in both the Opening and Closing Ceremonies for the Paralympic Games with a special invitation to return in Sydney, Australia. The last few years she has settled down, gotten married, had a couple of children and has kept pushing to have her own studio.
